GDP rose in most metro areas in 2014

129 wordsAll Latest News, Economic DevelopmentThe U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis report that gross domestic product (GDP) rose in 282 of the nation’s 381 metropolitan areas in 2014. Collectively, real GDP for U. S. metropolitan areas increased 2.3 percent in 2014 after increasing 1.9 percent in 2013.
Des Moines-West Des Moines ranked 60th in current-dollar GDP.
Growth in 2014 was particularly strong in professional and business services, wholesale and retail trade, and finance, insurance, real estate, rental, and leasing. Construction, finance and insurance were among the strongest sectors in Iowa.
Iowa’s growth was lower than all of of its bordering states, at 0.4 percent. The other states next to Iowa ranged from South Dakota’s 0.6 percent to North Dakota’s 6.3 percent. The Great Plains average was 1.3 percent growth in GDP for 2014. Read more
