General Growth Properties Inc. (GGP) will sell one-third stakes in two Phoenix-area shopping centers to California-based Macerich Co. as part of its deal to acquire a Chicago-area Neiman Marcus store, Crain’s Chicago Business reported.

Chicago-based General Growth, which owns Jordan Creek Town Center in West Des Moines, stands to collect $75 million in cash in the transaction. General Growth will also pick up a Burlington Coat Factory store in San Diego, a Forever 21 store in Tucson, Ariz., and two former Mervyn’s stores in Fallbrook, Calif., and Ogden, Utah.

“This deal not only provides (GGP) with additional capital to either pay off debt or reinvest in our properties, it also helps us further solidify our focus on our core assets,” CEO Sandeep Mathrani said in a statement. “The six high-profile anchor locations will add to (GGP) bottom line and provide further value for our shareholders.”

General Growth, which last November emerged from bankruptcy protection with new management and new investors, owns about 200 U.S. shopping malls.
