Cities and counties that represent watershed management authorities can apply for a new grant from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Iowa Economic Development Authority to develop a comprehensive watershed plan to reduce flood risks and improve water quality.

Eligibility is restricted to the 85 counties that were declared federal disaster areas during the 2008 floods. Interested cities and counties can attend an informational meeting July 25 at 1 p.m. in the Wallace State Office Building third floor conference room, 502 E. Ninth St.

Funding is anticipated to be available for three applicants for a maximum award of $187,330 each to develop a comprehensive watershed plan for an established watershed management authority. The full request for proposal is available at bidopportunities.iowa.gov.
