Grinnell benefactor Rosenfield featured in Money magazine

130 wordsAll Latest News, Banking and Finance, EducationJoe Rosenfield, a Grinnell College alumnus whose investing acumen helped Grinnell turn $11 million into more than $1 billion for its endowment fund, was featured in a recent Money magazine article, “The 5 Most Successful Investors You’ve Never Heard Of.” Rosenfield, who passed away in 2000 at the age of 96, was a 1925 Grinnell graduate. “Rosenfield had an uncanny talent for recognizing top investment opportunities,” according to the Money profile. A Des Moines lawyer who later led the Younkers department store chain, he devoted his full energies to Grinnell College after he retired in the mid-1960s. Under his guidance, Grinnell’s endowment became the largest endowment per student of any private liberal arts college in the United States. His investment brilliance was based on a simple philosophy – buy and hold.
