Health insurance premiums up an average 10.1 percent
Health insurance premiums in Iowa increased an average of 10.1 percent from 2010 to 2011, according to the 2011 Iowa Employer Benefits Study conducted annually by employee benefits consulting firm David P. Lind & Associates LLC of Clive. The 10.1 percent increase is an average that factors in employers receiving no change, an increase or decrease in their premiums. The average monthly premiums for all medical plans offered by Iowa employers were $421 for single coverage and $1,108 for family. Since 1999, employee contributions have increased by 108 percent for single coverage and 109 percent for family coverage, compared with a 35.6 percent increase in the average weekly wage in Iowa for all industries over the past decade.
