Heartland Express Inc. of North Liberty today reported that its fourth-quarter 2014 operating income was up 28.2 percent, to $34.2 million from $26.7 million in the fourth quarter of 2013. Net income increased 36 percent, to $21.5 million compared with $15.8 million in the fourth quarter of 2013, reported Globe Newswire. Operating revenues for the quarter increased 10.7 percent, to $203 million from $183.3 in the same period the previous year. The company reported all-time record operating revenues of $871.4 million in 2014, a 49.7 percent increase from $582.3 million reported in 2013, helped in part by declining fuel prices and strong demand.
