The Iowa Transportation Commission found $33 million in uses during the 2015 fiscal year for the 10-cent-per-gallon gasoline tax increase that took effect March 1.

At its meeting today in Ames, the commission approved an amendment to its highway improvement program that adds 10 highway and bridge projects to the current construction program.

The $33.2 million represents 100 percent of the additional road funding for state highway projects expected to be generated by the gas tax hike through the current fiscal year, which ends June 30.

The commission approved funding for two non-interstate bridge modernization projects; four interstate construction projects, including one in Polk County; one safety project; and two non-interstate pavement modernization projects, one of which targets spot locations that are in immediate need of improvement, according to a release.
