Historic Ames hotel gets grant for face-lift
The Iowa Economic Development Authority has approved a $75,000 grant for remodeling at the Sheldon Munn, a former hotel in downtown Ames, the Ames Tribune reported. John Lott, owner of the Benjamin Design Collaborative, has owned the apartment building since November 2014. His $4.5 million renovation plans include stabilizing the foundation, facade improvements, renovation of 56 apartments, new heating and cooling systems and renovation of the old Fire House Book Store. The city of Ames also awarded the project $56,423 from its facade grant program in July.
