Route Fifty, an independent digital news operation covering state, county and municipal governments, launched the awards program to honor individuals and teams that have demonstrated the ability to implement innovative ideas for improving public-sector services. An article on the Route Fifty website about Home Base Iowa’s selection reads: “In an era of online dating, Iowa is playing matchmaker of a different sort — connecting military veterans with affordable communities conducive to their skill sets.” Winners will be announced in November.
