Hoyt Sherman Place executive director dies after battle with cancer

Carol Pollock, executive director of Hoyt Sherman Place in Des Moines, died May 15 of  complications from pancreatic cancer. She was 70. VenuWorks, the management company for Hoyt Sherman Place, posted on its website that Pollock’s work at Hoyt Sherman led the organization to financial stability during recent economic challenges faced by many similar organizations dependent on endowment funding. Some of her accomplishments at Hoyt Sherman included increasing bookings by 75 percent as well as developing programs that helped the organization raise $65,000 in funds to restore 51 pieces of 18th-century art housed at Hoyt Sherman Place. A memorial service will be held at Hoyt Sherman Place on June 22 at 11 a.m. Memorials can be directed to the Hoyt Sherman Place Foundation.
