HUD money designed to help families achieve self sufficiency
Sen. Tom Harkin announced that Des Moines and Dubuque will receive $98,770 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Public Housing – Family Self Sufficiency Program.
The funding is designed to hire program coordinators whose job will be to link residents with training opportunities, job placement organizations and local employers. Harkin said in a press release that it is important to encourage partnerships between employers and people seeking jobs.
The city of Des Moines will receive $32,024, and the Eastern Iowa Regional Housing Authority in Dubuque will receive $66,746.
