The National Network to End Domestic Violence has announced Isabel Martinez Santos as the 2021 recipient of its annual DREAM Award. Martinez Santos is the co-director of the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence’s Legal Clinic. The DREAM Award is named after Diane Reese, who was integral in the passage of the Violence Against Women Act. The award honors individuals who incorporate and demonstrate the spirit and promise of advocacy in all aspects of life. In her role at ICADV, Martinez Santos provides legal services, resources and support to survivors of domestic violence while also supporting and mentoring Spanish-speaking, bicultural advocates. “Our entire team, community, state and national partners have the privilege of working alongside Isabel and to learn something new from her every day,” said Maria Corona, executive director of ICADV. “Isabel certainly embodies Diane Reese’s activism and educator nature and has accomplished many small and extraordinary wins on behalf of survivors of violence. Her dedication and love for the work towards healing, justice, and the end of all forms of violence not only inspire this generation of anti-violence movement advocates and partners, but all of us.” Martinez Santos will be recognized at a virtual presentation at NNEDV’s annual meeting next month.
