The Indianola City Council recently upgraded its residential tax abatement program.

The Indianola City Council recently upgraded its residential tax abatement program to a sliding scale from 100 percent of the value added by new construction to 20 percent over five years. The old program offered a three-year abatement of 100 percent of the first $75,000 of improvement over three years. The new plan also applies to residential renovations that add 10 percent to the value. The city’s commercial abatement program starts at 80 percent and falls to 20 percent.
