A staircase located on Ingersoll Avenue will be transformed into a pedestrian pathway that will feature public art, lighting and improved landscaping. The stairs will connect Ingersoll to Grand Avenue in a first-of-its-kind project led by the Avenues of Ingersoll and Grand and developer TreeHouse Partners. The pathway, which will be open to the public, will showcase public art that can be viewed from Ingersoll or accessed by using the staircase to travel to Grand Avenue. The project is part of the district’s plan to incorporate more urban recreation opportunities through walkability, public art and green space initiatives. Funding will be provided by TreeHouse Partners and a Community Development Grant from the Polk County Board of Supervisors. Work on the project is expected to start this spring, and the Avenues arts and culture committee is accepting proposals from Iowa-based artists for the staircase project until March 6.
