Really, they kind of like Des Moines, as Boston Globe reporter Jon Marcus alluded to in a Nov. 6 lifestyle trends piece. Guess what? We can be trendy. We’re Iowa Nice, so I’m sure Marcus enjoyed the trip. “[A]long with many other cities of its size, ‘The Des’ has gotten … hip,” Marcus wrote. OK, Des Moines. Who led the poor visiting reporter astray with this whole “The Des” nickname business? Bless Raygun (whose own Mike Draper was quoted by the Globe) for quipping a new slogan on Twitter: ” ‘The Des,’ French for ‘The The.’ “
