Iowa Insurance Commissioner Nick Gerhart announced Thursday that Chance McElhaney will be the communications director and legislative liaison for the Iowa Insurance Division.  McElhaney succeeds Tom Alger, who retired from the position in mid-January.  McElhaney, 30, is originally from Cedar Falls and is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa.  He previously was the communications director for the Iowa secretary of state’s office in Des Moines and deputy press secretary for U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley in Washington, D.C. “I look forward to Chance being a key resource in the Iowa Insurance Division for members of the media and legislators,” Gerhart said.  “His experience will help us ensure important information from our agency is properly getting into the hands of the individuals that need it.”
