Integrated orthopedic care center to open next year
A fully integrated medical office building, under construction north of downtown, will be shared by four existing Greater Des Moines businesses.
Iowa Orthopaedic Center; Mercy Terrace Hill Ambulatory Surgery Center; Open MRI, Mercy Campus; and a yet-to-be-determined physical therapy group will occupy the 60,000-sqaure-foot facility, owned by Rock Creek Investments, when it opens near the end of 2009.
Kevin Ward, managing member of Rock Creek Investments, said offering a variety of services under one roof will help providers better manage orthopedic patient care, calling it a natural extension of the care-delivery “continuum.”
Ward anticipates that around 200 employees will work in the two-story building at 450 Laurel St., including 10 new positions.
The ambulatory surgery center will continue to operate as a joint venture with Mercy Medical Center that has been in place since 1998.
Neumann Bros. Inc. broke ground at the site on Aug. 11. An official groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Sept. 11.
