Interactive map shows August jobless rates by Iowa community

206 wordsAll Latest News, Economic DevelopmentCedar Rapids had the highest unemployment rate among Iowa’s cities in August, with 6.7% of the community’s workforce unemployed, data from Iowa Workforce Development shows.
According to the data, 5,100 people in Cedar Rapids’ workforce of 76,200 were unemployed in August. Cedar Rapids’ jobless rate was 4.6% in July.
Likely contributing to the increase in Cedar Rapids’ unemployment rate were layoffs at Collins Aerospace, which let go over 100 workers in July.
Statewide, 3.8% of Iowa’s workforce was unemployed in August, data released Sept. 18 shows. The state agency released city and county-level data last week.
The Business Record has created an interactive map that shows August’s unemployment rates by city or statistical area. The size of cities’ labor forces and the number of people who are unemployed is among the data included in the map.
