The Iowa Bankers Association has awarded John Sorensen, former president and CEO of the industry association, the 2025 James A. Leach Leadership Award. Sorensen, who retired in January after 38 years with the association, was recognized for his role as a prominent spokesperson on financial and economic issues and his leadership in expanding the association into the largest state banking association in the U.S. Sorensen continues his industry involvement as a director at West Bank, a public director on the board of Shazam Inc. and several other Iowa business and community organizations. He received the award Monday during the association’s annual convention in Johnston.
