The Iowa Cancer Consortium has awarded more than $200,000 in grants to nine organizations statewide through two grant programs, supporting projects that will run through May 2026. The funding will primarily benefit cancer survivorship initiatives, with additional projects focused on radon testing and HPV education. Awarded projects include expansion of patient support services, creation of statewide referral networks, development of educational programs and provision of free radon test kits. Two of the grants will fund statewide efforts, while others will serve 78 counties across Iowa. According to the news release, delays at the federal level initially made it unclear if the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services would be able to issue the contract that provides 70% of the consortium’s annual operating budget. Iowa HHS funding that supports the Iowa Cancer Consortium comes from a mix of federal funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state funds.
