88 wordsAll Latest News, Government Policy and Law, Manufacturing, Statewide NewsDes Moines Register: Iowa cattle producers are calling for a joint investigation by the U.S. Departments of Justice and Agriculture into the nation’s largest meatpacking companies, saying they’re using their market power to manipulate beef prices. “Cattle producers find themselves hemorrhaging thousands of dollars” while the top meat processors are making roughly $1,000 for each steer that’s processed, based on market prices last week, the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association wrote to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, a former Iowa governor, in a letter Monday.
