Credit unions located in Iowa contributed $1.57 billion to the state’s economy in 2018, a report authored by Iowa State University economist Dave Swenson shows. The report, “The Economic Contribution of Iowa’s Credit Unions,” found that every $1 spent by the state’s credit unions added 52 cents elsewhere in Iowa’s economy, and every job at an Iowa credit union supports an additional 1.02 jobs in the rest of the Iowa economy. The report looked at data from 88 credit unions, which employed 4,248 workers. To read the entire report, click here.
