Iowa falling behind other bike-friendly states
Iowa, despite its plethora of recreational trails and its history with one of the country’s most popular recreational bike rides, RAGBRAI, is falling behind other states in one rating of bike-friendliness, reported the Des Moines Sunday Register. Iowa dropped from 25th to 28th in a ranking by the League of American Bicyclists, largely because it hasn’t developed as many bike lanes on city streets. Bike lanes have surged on urban streets in the past five years as cities compete for younger workers, who are more likely to favor alternative means of transportation.
