Grimes Family Physicians broke ground Tuesday for a new family practice clinic in Grimes. The 8,450 square foot facility will be constructed at the intersection of Iowa Highway 44 and Destination Drive and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

The clinic, designed by Simonson & Associates Architects LLC, will open with two physicians and one nurse practitioner, with capacity for up to five doctors.

Specialty physicians will also rotate in weekly as needed, and the clinic will be equipped with a digital mobile mammography device.

Iowa Health officials said the clinic is the first to be designed specifically to align with the health-care reform concepts of accountable care, meaningful use of electronic medical data and the establishment of a “medical home” for patients. The new clinic will replace the practice’s existing building at 1551 S.E. Third St.
