Iowa Leading Indicators up slightly in October
The Iowa Leading Indicators Index increased to 105.6 in October from 105.4 in September. The monthly diffusion index increased in October to 62.5 from 56.3 in September. With another increase in October, Iowa’s nonfarm employment index has entered the sixth consecutive year of positive growth. Over the last five months, the index has experienced two positive changes and three months with no change, suggesting that employment growth will continue into winter. There were three negative contributors to the index in October: average manufacturing hours, the Iowa stock market index and the new orders index.
