Iowa Legal Aid receives federal grant
Iowa Legal Aid in Des Moines has been awarded $88,000 in matching grants from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to represent clients through the Low Income Taxpayer Clinics (LITC). The program provides legal services to residents involved in disputes with the IRS for free or at nominal charges. Through the LITC program, the IRS awards matching grants of up to $100,000 a year to qualifying organizations. For the 2011 grant cycle, the IRS awarded LITC grants totaling nearly $10 million to 165 organizations.
