USA Discounters, a bankrupt Virginia-based national retailer, will provide nearly $96 million in relief to active-duty service members and veterans for alleged deceptive sales and lending practices. In Iowa, the company has agreed to provide approximately $215,000 in debt forgiveness and other relief to 94 Iowa consumers, Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller announced Monday. The settlement alleges that USA Discounters engaged in unfair, abusive, false and deceptive acts and practices. USA Discounters, which in 2014 changed its name to USA Living and also does business as Fletcher’s Jewelers, typically marketed to members of the military and veterans, advertising that military members, veterans and government employees would never be denied credit for goods purchased from the retailer.
