Iowa Public Radio is changing the formatting on WOI 90.1FM to air local and national news programming on weekdays and Studio One’s contemporary music at night. Classical music will be still be available throughout the day on KICP 105.9FM, KICL 96.3FM, KUNI 101.7FM and KICJ 88.9FM. The state’s public radio executives decided to implement the changes after audience measurements over the last two years suggested the change would generate a 46 percent increase in listening audience in Greater Des Moines. Additionally, IPR is building a station in Boone to better serve the Ames metropolitan area for classical music and is in discussion for a partnership with small stations in Marshalltown and upper central Iowa regions to provide classical music to listeners.
