The Iowa State University College of Engineering has named Caroline Hayes chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Hayes will also hold the positions of professor of mechanical engineering and Lynn Gleason Professor of Interdisciplinary Engineering. Her appointment will begin Oct. 1. Hayes, a native of Pennsylvania, holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees from Carnegie Mellon University. She most recently served with the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota, where her duties also included serving director of graduate studies for human factors and ergonomics, and faculty liaison to the Minnesota legislature.
