Iowa State University has been awarded a $20 million federal grant for research focused on keeping Midwest cornfields productive in the face of future climate change. The five-year project will involve 42 scientists from nine universities and two U.S. Department of Agriculture institutions, all located in an eight-state region, according to a press release from U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin. Farmers in the research region produce 64 percent of the nation’s grain corn and 37 percent of the corn silage.
