Iowa Transportation Commission approves grants

189 wordsAll Latest News, TransportationThe Iowa Transportation Commission on Tuesday approved grants for several central Iowa projects intended to promote economic development.
Grimes: Up to $164,096 was approved for an extension of Southeast Destination Drive in the southeast part of town. The road will provide access to six lots spanning more than 10 acres and eyed for light industrial, manufacturing, and warehousing. The road should be in place by December.
Marshalltown: Up to $79,088 was approved to help pay for left turn lanes on South 18th Avenue to provide access to approximately 50 acres for manufacturing and distribution purposes. This project should be done by August.
Grinnell: Up to $549,000 for the construction of turn lanes on Iowa Highway 146 on the south side of town. The work will improve access to Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Co., a property and casualty insurance and reinsurance provider. The company will create 61 full-time jobs in a project that will include $12.8 million in capital investment. This work is expected to be complete in October 2016.
The grants came from the Revitalize Iowa’s Sound Economy (RISE) program, which is intended to support economic development and to support jobs.
