Iowa unemployment rate drops to 2.4 percent

Iowa’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 2.4 percent in October, only the fifth time since record-keeping started in 1976 that the monthly rate has been that low. The U.S. rate was 3.7 percent. The Iowa rate originally hit 2.4 percent in December 1999 and held there until March 2000. The state’s jobless rate was 2.9 percent last October. The state’s jobless rate was 2.9 percent one year ago. Iowa Workforce Development attributed the low unemployment to gains in manufacturing and construction.
