Iowa unemployment rate steady at 2.4%
Iowa’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stayed at 2.4% in April, well below the national figure of 3.6%. Beth Townsend, director of Iowa Workforce Development, said in a statement that Iowa’s unemployment has been at historically low levels for 10 straight months. “The fact that more than 30,000 Iowans are working than a year ago speaks volumes about the resilience and expansion of Iowa’s economy considering the extreme weather conditions in the past 6 months. The legislature’s commitment to fund Future Ready Iowa will have significant positive impact on our ability to create the skilled workforce we so clearly need,” Townsend said. In the 12 months through April, manufacturing showed the most growth, with 7,700 added jobs.
