Iowans plan to plant fewer acres of soybeans this year
Iowa growers are planning on planting 9.4 million acres of soybeans this year, down 400,000 acres, or 4 percent, from 2010, according to the Iowa Soybean Association. Iowa corn acres are projected at 13.9 million acres, up 4 percent.
The projections come on the heels of a report released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture today, which said the nation’s soybean acres are projected to be down 1 percent at 76.6 million acres, which would be the third-largest U.S. area planted in soybeans on record. Corn planting is expected to be up 5 percent.
