Iowa’s jobless rate remains unchanged at 3.7%

Iowa employers added 300 jobs in July, the first increase since April, new data from Iowa Workforce Development shows.

Job gains were in the education and health services private sector, with 6,000 jobs added, and construction, with 4,700 jobs added.

However, since January, Iowa employers have shed 4,400 jobs, lowering Iowa’s total nonfarm employment to 1,591,500 in July. In January, the state’s total nonfarm employment was 1,595,900.

Overall, Iowa’s unemployment rate for July remained unchanged at 3.7%. In July 2024, the state’s jobless rate was 3.1%.

The U.S. unemployment rate increased to 4.2% in July. It was 4.1% in June.
