With hundreds of TPI Composite workers losing their jobs at year-end, dozens of Central Iowa employers are hoping to fill their own vacancies with skilled workers. More than 130 employers plan to participate in a job fair to be held next week in response to Monday’s announcement of the closure of TPI Composites in Newton. IowaWORKS, in conjunction with local partners, will host a job fair at the Newton Campus of Des Moines Area Community College, 600 N. Second Ave., Newton, on Dec. 9 and 10. Due to high employer demand, the job fair will take place across three sessions (7 a.m. to noon and noon to 6 p.m. on Dec. 9, and 7 a.m. to noon on Dec. 10). It will be open to the general public. Iowa Workforce Development said an employer directory will be available at the job fair. TPI Composites, a manufacturer of wind turbine blades, on Monday posted a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice with IWD saying it plans to lay off 710 workers by Dec. 31, the Des Moines Register reported. The notice was labeled as a “closing.”
