ISU design team wins Johnston public art competition
An Iowa State University design studio has been named the winner of a public art competition to build an interactive sculpture in the city of Johnston’s new town center. According to a news release, Reinaldo Correa, assistant professor of architecture, hired three students who lost their summer internships because of the coronavirus pandemic to design the project, called “Ripples” (aka “Big Fish”). The artwork is an interactive metal sculpture of the body and tail of a leaping largemouth bass, the most common fish found in Saylorville Lake and Terra Lake. It will feature kinetic scales and lights that change color. Work on the sculpture will begin later this year, with installation scheduled for next April. Image submitted by ISU
