ITA members convene at Capitol
The Iowa Telecommunications Association (ITA) will gather 30 to 40 member organizations for its ITA Day at the Capitol today.
ITA Director of Government Relations Joe Hrdlicka said the day was an opportunity for providers to set up displays and meet with their legislators to talk about specific issues in the telecommunications industry, including the Federal Communications Commission’s National Broadband Plan, which some members feel will threaten rural Iowans’ Internet access.
President Barack Obama alluded to his support for the plan in Tuesday’s State of the Union address when he called for 98 percent of Americans to have access to 4G wireless service in the next five years. In an October interview, Hrdlicka told the Business Record that he thinks the plan would promote a rural-urban divide.
