Jobless claims rise last week
U.S. jobless claims rose by 13,000 to reach 462,000 in the week ended Oct. 9, according to figures released by the U.S. Labor Department. Economists had forecast claims would hold at previous levels, according to projections in a Bloomberg News survey.
“You have modest, at best, job growth, and it reflects a slow-moving jobs market,” said economist Jill Brown in an interview with Bloomberg. “We’re not in a recession, so we expect the labor market to continue to improve, just not at a rapid pace.”
