John Deere awards $10,500 grant to Oakridge Neighborhood for STEAM programming
Oakridge Neighborhood has received a $10,500 grant from John Deere Des Moines Operations to support the nonprofit’s STEAM youth education programs. The STEAM program bridges science, technology, engineering and math education with arts curriculum for children in pre-kindergarten and older. STEAM opportunities include hand-on activities, field trips, workshops and an artist-in-residence program. “We are so appreciative of the support of John Deere Des Moines Operations in helping us continue to elevate our already robust youth programming,” Teree Caldwell-Johnson, CEO of Oakridge Neighborhood, said in the release. Oakridge Neighborhood is one of the city’s most diverse neighborhoods, with over 66% immigrants and refugees from over 23 countries that speak over 29 languages. Fifty-three percent of its residents are children, with 99% of Oakridge residents being low-income.
