The city of Johnston could expand by more than 800 acres.

The Planning and Zoning Commission voted to recommend approval of the annexation of 837.52 acres east and west of Northwest 100th Street and north of Northwest 70th Avenue.

The annexation would create the following zones: agricultural reserve, estate residential, single-family residential districts, floodway and floodway fringe overlay districts and animal-keeping overlay districts.

According to staff reports, there are 88 existing residential homes in the proposed annexation.

A public hearing is scheduled for the City Council meeting on Feb. 19.
