Name: Kelly Dennis
New position: When she took the reins as chief financial officer of Hospice of Central Iowa in mid-May, Kelly Dennis became responsible for ensuring that the nonprofit organization remains in good fiduciary standing with Medicare and Medicaid, the two largest sources of revenue for Hospice, which provides end-of-life care and support for families.
Vitals: Dennis obtained a degree in accounting from Drake University in 1992 and has since received a certified public accounting license from the state of Iowa. She has spent the majority of her career heavily involved in health-care reimbursements, financing, auditing compliance and financial reporting. Prior to her position at Hospice, Dennis worked for Cahaba Government Benefit for more than 14 years. She joined Hospice of Central Iowa as an accounting director approximately two years ago.
Job one: With Medicare changing its reimbursement policies, Hospice will face some financial challenges. Effective Oct. 1, Medicare will cut more than $2.3 billion in reimbursement funds to hospice organizations nationwide, which means Hospice will see a reduction of more than 4.5 percent in its reimbursement allocation. Though the decrease will take place over three years, it is Dennis’ job one to get a plan developed and implemented to ensure that the organization is prepared for the financial impact.
