A new Kum & Go convenience store with a Go Fresh Market is expected to open in early 2021 in Bondurant, the northeast Polk County community in which Amazon is building a fulfillment center.
The Kum & Go is planned at 3015 Oxbow Court S.W., about one-half mile west of the Amazon facility, which is expected to open in November.
“We were already looking at the area prior to the speculation and announcement of the Amazon distribution center due to the growth in the area in both residential and commercial development,” a company spokesman wrote in an email. The center “just reinforced our desire to be located in this community.”
The Kum & Go building permit was one of 14 issued for new commercial construction projects in July in 13 Des Moines-area communities, a review by the Business Record found. Overall, commercial building permits valued at more than $53 million were issued for new projects, additions to existing structure and remodels.
Kum & Go, with 35 locations in Polk County and 10 in Dallas County, bought the nearly 4-acre parcel in June for $2.2 million, real estate records show.
Construction of the new store will begin yet this summer with completion scheduled by early 2021, according to the company’s spokesman.
The Business Record in July launched a new CRE Weekly feature – an interactive map and database of commercial building permits issued by 13 Central Iowa communities between Jan. 1 and July 31, 2020.
The interactive map (below) includes information about the value of the permits issued, what type of work is being done and the date the permit was issued. Links are included to stories done by the Business Record on some of the projects. Photos are also included for some projects.
The map and accompanying spreadsheet will be updated monthly.
