Labor report: U.S. jobs grew in April as predicted
The U.S. economy grew in April with employers adding 223,000 nonfarm jobs, according to the latest Bureau of Labor report released today. Forbes.com reported that the job gains were just under what experts had predicted, but considerably better than dismal gains in March of just 85,000 jobs. Job openings increased in business and professional services, health care and construction. The unemployment rate for April was 5.4 percent, down just 0.1 percent from March, and the labor participation rate remained virtually unchanged at 62.8 percent, up 0.1 percentage point from March.
