Ladco Development Inc. is planning the next stage of residential development at the Village of Ponderosa in West Des Moines. Chris Shires, the city’s development manager, said Ladco told the city during a pre-application meeting that it intends to develop 87 apartments and 135 villas in the southeast corner of the 96-acre mixed-use development. Shires said Ladco is still in its preliminary planning stages and could begin building as early as next year. “Based on their timing, they’ve set themselves up to start in the spring,” he said, noting that the number of homes planned could change. The proposed area is located south of South Prairie View Drive and north of West Glen Town Center. When the Village of Ponderosa is completed, it is expected to have 16 commercial buildings and nearly 500 homes.
