The Iowa Commission of Latino Affairs has selected Claudia Schabel and the organizers of the Iowa Latino Conference to receive the 2010 Robert D. Ray Iowa Latino Ambassador Award and the Mary Campos Award, respectively. Schabel, a native of Brazil and president of the Alianza Latino Business Association, serves on a number of local board and committees. Hundreds of volunteers have served as planners, presenters, hosts and on-site coordinators for the annual Iowa Latino Conference, which was founded in 1998. The awards will be presented on Oct. 16 during the 12th annual Iowa Latino Conference in Iowa City.
