Lawsuits claim Meredith broke states’ right of publicity laws by selling subscriber info
Des Moines Register: Magazine subscribers from around the country are accusing publisher Meredith Corp. of illegally selling their personal information to other companies. At least three federal lawsuits were filed this week against Des Moines-based Meredith. They accuse the company, which publishes Better Homes & Gardens, Health, Entertainment Weekly and other magazines, of violating right of publicity laws in California, Ohio and Puerto Rico. Such laws require companies to get a person’s consent before using their name or likeness commercially.
