The Des Moines Make-A-Wish 19th annual gala, presented by Iowa Health Systems, will take place May 5 at the Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino ballroom.

This year’s theme, “Dancing With the Stars,” will host celebrities including Shawn Johnson, Tim Dwight, Terry Branstad, Colleen Kelly and Jeriann Ritter as both dancers and guest judges.

The annual gala helps raise funds to grant wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions across the state.

To date, the Iowa chapter has granted more than 2,500 wishes with the average cost being about $8,200. Make-A-Wish Iowa is on pace to grant a new wish every other day in 2012.
