Manufacturing activity expands in March, according to index
Economic activity in the manufacturing sector expanded for the 20th consecutive month in March, according to the Institute for Supply Management’s index on manufacturing.
The Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) registered about 60 for the third straight month with a reading of 61.2. A PMI in excess of 42.5 percent generally indicates an expansion of the overall economy.
Of 18 manufacturing industries, 15 reported growth in March. The non-manufacturing business index was 57.3. A reading above 50 signals growth.
