Greater Des Moines mayors and city managers met recently to debate what to tackle next with a coalition of local governments that already has worked on uniform building codes and other issues. Though the discussion, coordinated  by the Capital Crossroads visioning effort, is ongoing and incomplete, the early talk has been about coming up with a toolbox for education on stormwater issues, and a strategy on affordable housing that could include a standard definition of what it is and a related inventory of the housing, officials said. The talks on stormwater and affordable housing were the first elevated to the level of city managers and mayors after earlier cooperative efforts in the region were driven by city staffers.
